Description
Maintain the charm and integrity of your Minoyaki Pink Sakura Matcha Chawan by caring for it properly. Made from ceramic, it should be handwashed only—using warm water and a soft sponge. Avoid using dishwashers, microwaves, or exposing it to quick temperature changes, such as extreme heat or cold water after use. After washing, dry it completely before storage. These simple steps help keep your chawan in excellent condition, ready to be used again and again.
What is Minoyaki? A Brief History
Minoyaki (美濃焼), or Mino ware, is a style of Japanese pottery originating from the Gifu Prefecture, with a heritage spanning over 1,300 years. As Japan’s most produced ceramic style, Minoyaki is deeply rooted in the traditions of tea ceremony culture, prized for its variety, craftsmanship, and functionality.
Emerging during the Momoyama period (late 1500s), Minoyaki saw a surge of creativity influenced by Zen aesthetics, with pieces often embracing wabi-sabi—the beauty found in imperfection. The area around Toki and Tajimi became central to production due to the region’s rich clay resources and skilled artisanship.
Today, Minoyaki continues to be cherished for its hand-finished textures, natural glazes, and seasonal motifs—like the cherry blossoms on this matcha bowl—offering a tangible connection to centuries of Japanese ceramic tradition.
