Proper Care Guide for Your Japanese Tenugui

To properly care for your Japanese Tenugui, follow these steps below and be sure to ask us if you have any questions.

• Initially, for the first 2 to 3 washes, it’s best to hand wash each item with water.
• Make sure to smooth out any wrinkles before allowing it to dry.
• Due to its thinness, it dries easily and maintains hygienic standards.
• When handling, remember that tenugui can be easily squeezed due to its thin texture.
• Avoid using hot water, detergent/bleach, and exposing it to direct sunlight, as these could potentially damage the fabric or cause color bleeding, especially if the tenugui items are left wet or overlapped.
• Regarding fraying, the “cut-edge” style, which lacks sewing on both ends, is a traditional method emphasizing quick-drying.
• Initially, some fraying may occur, but by trimming the frayed edges two or three times, it will develop a fringe-like appearance, and further fraying will be prevented.
