This unique one-piece lacquered melamine Fukushima Kikkō Large Noodle Soup Bowl is made using the classic crimson red and black Aizu-Nuri lacquering process of the Fukushima prefecture in Japan.

Finished in a gloss lacquer the large noodle soup bowl measures 140mm and the black outer pattern lends its inspiration from the traditional Kikkō tortoiseshell patterns that are commonly used throughout Japan.

Description
In Japan, the Kikkō pattern used in this large noodle soup is considered to be lucky. It is a representation of the tortoiseshell’s top half, with its characteristic hexagonal pattern. Due to the fact that tortoises are known to live for an extended period of time, this design represents longevity and good fortune. When a little flower is placed in the centre of the hexagon, the design is called Kikk Hanabishi. Additionally, the design resembles the hexagon-shaped armour plates used by Samurai warriors in mediaeval Japan.
